The Ambler EAC members devote time and energy to create initiatives that will protect our environment and increase awareness of environmental impact issues.  Below is a list of projects that our members are currently involved with.  Please see the "accomplishments" link to learn about past projects that Ambler EAC has undertaken and completed.

Annual and Ongoing Initiatives:
  • publish biannual Home Town News with substantial "Environmental Corner"

  • coordination of Ambler's Spring Stream Clean-Up, with over 30 volunteers

  • publicity of household hazardous waste recycling center collection dates

  • organize collection of compact fluorescent (CFL) light bulbs

PLASTIC BAG FREE AMBLER
reusable bags for life!

 

Ambler's EAC organized a design contest in 2009 for students from four Wissahickon schools to create artwork that promotes reusable bag use.

Four beautiful reusable and washable twill bags printed with the winning designs are now available for sale.  Buy all four!!  For additional information, to order, to sell bags, or to volunteer, please contact Susan Curry 215-591-1551.

Profits support Wissahickon Schools and Ambler EAC.

CURRENT PROJECTS:

PROTECTING OUR STREAMS & WATERSHED

  • Annual Spring Stream Clean-Up event - we coordinate over 30 volunteers annually to clean up Ambler's stream banks

  • Joint EAC initiative to protect Wissahickon watershed

  • Merck grant, pending Growing Greener Plus grant for Stuart Farm Creek Restoration

  • Rose Valley Creek riparian buffer restoration

  • advising revisions of Borough landscaping ordinance to exclude invasive species, other ordinance upgrades on floodplains, wetlands, forested lands, riparian buffers, steep slopes

TREE PLANTING

  • The Ambler EAC is developing a Downtown Tree Management Policy...

  • tree watering of 30 new Ambler park trees

PROMOTING RECYCLING IN AMBLER

  • Supporting Ambler businesses to increase recycling

  • acquiring Clear Stream recycling containers for parks and streets in primary retail corridors

PROMOTING BICYCLE TRAVEL

  • Sponsoring bike racks along primary business zones (5 in 2010)

  • creating a green map with bike routes

PROMOTING SUSTAINABLE BUSINESS
